Illustration Catalogue Blurb

Gemma Quelch is an illustrator whose work is generally hand drawn and handmade.  Her work is often that of mixed media, using anything from fabric and magazine cut-outs to paint and Quink ink.

The two images shown here are a good example of how she mix’s hand drawn images with other textures and mediums. Gemma’s Work produced is  very fashion inspired from the likes of magazines and TV advertising.

Some of her influences include; Rebecca Kitchin, My Dead Pony and Robert Rauschenberg.

Still life

Today i have been out in the garden, working on pattern making by drawing some of the flowers etc. To impliment into my final design - maybe placeing it in there by putting the oppacity on low or as a block square (with a drawn frame around) over the top of the rest of my flyer.

A1 Sheet

Carrying on drawing on the same A1 sheet, i have further explored with type, and thinking of words that i could include in my final piece that links in with the theme of 'Obsession'... In this image i have begun to impliment the word 'excess' into the drawn aspect. As i want all the type to be part of my designs - apposed to layered in after.

Here are a couple of images, where i have continued to explore typography and ways to integrate it into some designs i will be experiementing with, when i start to do some more drafts for my flyer.

(In the above image) i will definatly be using this saying within my final outcome, it reads 'Obsession can lead to style, success and originality'.

A1 Sheet

To get more of a feel about the form and design of my constatina flyer, i have started doing some drawing and collage onto an A1 sheet. By working on a larger scale there is more freedom to get more detail, and allows me to crop into some area's that i would like to use in my final design.

The images that i am creating now, i hope to use in my end design. When it actually comes to producing my flyer and possibly posters, i will be scanning images that i have already created, and will be creating up untill nearer my deadline.

Magazines as references

This kind of layout is one possibility for one section, or the back of my flyer design - images i include could be anything from photos that i have taken for this project, or work in process designs, to tell a story of the process of making / organising this event (to make it look a more real opening).

Throughout my project i have been collecting magazines and leaflets, from places such as shops and events.

By doing this i am getting ideas for layout, directly linking my project to fashion based magazines - seeing what sort of design is used.

In the photo directly above i think i could this layout design, or something simular would be suitable for my work.

Catalogue images.

As part of sorting out our end of degree show book, each of us in the class had to choose 2 images that we would like to see appear next to our name and headshot as a form of showing off our style and ability.

We all had to format these 2 images to a certain size with 5mm bleed around it to give to louise on a CD.  The two images that i have chosen to present in our book are the ones you see above.

I have chosen these particular two, as i feel they really shown off my skills so far on this fmp project. They portray how i have a great interest in fashion and my abilities with mixed media collage (how i intend on working when i leave uni and build up my portfolio some more). 

This is an image that i was thinking about using from a past project, from a double page spread i cropped into a lively area and formated the image to the required mesurments. I do really like how this looks, but this work alongside one of the images above looked abit inconsistant when it comes to the meanings. plus i am very glad i used images both from the project im doing at the moment.
